Meta and CBSE: collaborates on Digital Safety, AR and VR
M Meta (formerly Facebook), at the recently held event Fuel for India 2021, announced its collaboration with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on content curation, development of curriculum that will include Digital Safety, Online Well-being, and Immersive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education with the help of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).
The announcement was made by Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “I'm really excited about that partnership. And I think it's just a huge opportunity and bringing just some of these tools around the metaverse and VR (virtual reality) and training to the education system here in India, I think it's gonna be awesome. I'm really excited about this and glad we're working on this”.

Universalising Education, with this goal in mind, the partnership will aim to reach out to over 10 million students and 1 million educators all across India. With the aim to empower educators with new age technology and skills, and for the students to have access to quality educational content, the partnership looks like great news for India.

We believe access to quality online education resources and new technologies in the form of AR to the country's youth can be transformational to their learning journey,” said Ajit Mohan, Vice-President and Managing Director, Facebook India.
Highlighting the current pandemic, its impact on lives all over the world, and Meta’s vision for India's education system, Biswajit Saha, Director (Skills Education and Training), CBSE, said “The learning process has undergone an unforeseen shift. This drastic change has brought along a wall of challenges in facilitating the process of learning. With the assistance of Meta, we hope to build on our online teaching and curriculum capabilities and make them available to students across the country. The response to the first phase of the programme was encouraging and has encouraged us to expand the scope of this partnership. This partnership will help equip our teachers with requisite skills to effectively use online tools for student engagement. Understanding that the era of ‘Digital India’ has begun, we aim to build responsible digital citizens with the introduction of Digital Citizenship and Augmented Reality in the curriculum, along with providing quality educational content for all”.
