R Rapid Teacher Training on Open, Distance and Online Learning, a capacity building exercise that was conducted has helped at least 100 schools in Zimbabwe till date. A total of 10 Zimbabwean provinces have benefited from this exercise that first took place in 2020.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) in Zimbabwe, in collaboration with UNESCO started this programme during the first year of COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic had an adverse effect on schools all over the world, with many countries facing a steep decline in literacy.
…the third phase of training also brought together school leaders, meaning more effective implementation of innovative teaching techniques…
The programme helped train the teachers to deliver effective online classes, provide distance education, and to use information and communication technology. Basic digital skills, remote learning methods, and pedagogical use of ICT for teaching were some of the training teachers received. The programme is in its third phase as of now; the first and second phases being designed especially to train virtually individual teachers. The third phase is more of a school-oriented model.

It's not just the students who gained from this exercise; the third phase of training also brought together school leaders, meaning more effective implementation of innovative teaching techniques. The practice has brought about professional development in teachers in different Zimbabwean provinces.
The training programme is supported by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
